4 Week Beginning Longsword

Mon: 6.00pm-7.00pm

 

***4 weeks: Jan 27 - Feb 24 (no class 2/17) at Cuesta College, room 1105***

***4 weeks: March 3 - April 7 (no class 3/17, 3/24) at Cuesta College, room 1105***

This four-week class is geared toward those interested in HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) longsword fencing who would like to get a feel for the sport.  Come learn fundamentals of longsword fencing that will get the body moving and work coordination skills.  The curriculum is built from historical documents.  In this class students will learn movement, cutting, and defense with a two-handed weapon.


Intermediate Longsword

Mon: 7.00pm-8.00pm

*** 8 weeks: Jan 26 - April 7 (no class 2/17, 3/17, 3/24) at Cuesta College, room 1105***

This class is for those students who have either taken the introductory longsword class at Cuesta or have had some prior longsword training. We will review topics covered in the beginning class in more depth, drawing directly from historical texts.  Partner drills and directed sparring practice will reinforce material learned. 

Fencing masks and moderate protective gloves will be required.


Advanced Longsword

Weds: 6.00pm-8.00pm

***12 weeks: Jan 22 - April 16 at Cuesta College, room 1105***

This class is geared towards those who have had some longsword training with sparring in the past, or confident enough from the last intermediate class we offered to level up.  Over the course of the semester we will focus on tactics and techniques of fighting.  Class will be a combination of partner drills and sparring.  Protective equipment for steel weaponry is required for this class.
